Estidama and its Pearls Design System have created an organization of thinking that is broken into six main sections, starting with the Estidama Integrative Design Process (EIDP). The five sections that follow EIDP are organized to communicate the important resource priorities and inter-relationships for achieving more sustainable development.
Using this construct, the Pearls Design System will help designers, students, developers and agencies begin to think about sustainable development as an integrated process of design, construction and operation. Living Systems and Livable City/ Buildings speak to the to the holistic nature of development in its environmental context – addressing both the natural, environmental systems that should be stewarded and integrated with the human requirements for vital and healthy neighborhoods. The final three sections – Precious Water, Resourceful Energy and Stewarding Materials address the resource imperatives most commonly associated with Sustainable Development.
